Great demand on Professional RFID Tags.

Of the total 9 percent less visitors than last year, we have not felt a thing. Quite the opposite: With an extended portfolio of RFID BLUEBOX Professional family and the expansion of the Smart RFID area we were successfully represented at the fair. The universal RFID Solutions received a high level of attention, especially for the automation of production processes in industrial sector.

The whole product range of powerful and miniaturized RFID OEM modules designed for easily integration in customer own solutions caused a strong demand and promising contacts. The visitors were especially interested in the robust and high configurable mobile handheld M3 Orange, with five powerful RFID modules, different additional functionality and comprehensive accessories. Moreover the demand for professional RFID tags has obviously increased. The professional RFID tags perfectly match to our fixed and mobile RFID readers as well as to all ISO compatible readers.

The live Demonstration of the powerful RFID BLUEBOX family with its RFID readers, antennas and extensive accessory for industrial applications was on focus of this year’s trade fair.

A successful Security Expo in Essen 2012

Especially in fields like access control, asset tracking or event management, iDTRONIC GmbH can supply individual solution for the different applications. Therefore the USB Desktop Reader EVO, an easy-to-use RFID reader for PC’s and laptops, was very popular. The USB Desktop Reader EVO is available for different RFID standards like Legic or ISO18000-6C.

All new products and industry trends were highly interesting for all visitors. iDTRONIC GmbH introduced two new versions of their popular M3 Orange Mobile Terminal, as a solution for the mobile sector. The latest version can be ordered with Legic RFID or with an UHF Long-Range RFID module.

Currently, there are important issues for the protection of public space, transport safety and security for buildings and facilities. More and more system solutions are required in this area. After a successful event in June 2012, the second BLUEBOX Training Day from iDTRONIC GmbH was on September 19th.

The aim of this event was to present the new BLUEBOX Professional RFID family and its wide range of possible applications. The complete product family with all the new controllers, readers, antennas and the entire range of accessories has been presented during the show.

Our team reported on the fast and easy integration of BLUEBOX products into new and existing applications. Challenges and solutions for the usage of RFID have been clearly illustrated and discussed. Especially the full compatibility across the entire BLUEBOX product range was an interesting point for all participants.

Beside the BLUEBOX products, all participants obtained a detailed overview about iDTRONIC’s professional RFID tags and their applications.

During the “touch & test” coffee breaks all participants had the opportunity to test the products extensively and exchange their experiences with RFID applications.

iDTRONIC’s approved Access Control Gate is now equipped with the latest BLUEBOX generation for the reliable identification in the UHF area. The integrated product is the BLUEBOX Controller UHF Long-Range 4CH, and as a result, it enables the fast reading of all common UHF tags combined with a longer reading distance. It is a high-performance solution for access control applications.

iDTRONIC will demonstrate the improved Access Control Gate live at upcoming Security Essen fair to a wide audience, with the latest BLUEBOX Professional RFID controllers and antennas integrated.

Each antenna panel is equipped with two circular polarized antennas, enabling the 3D tag reading independently from the orientation of the tag. The two panels can easily be mounted on nearly every surface and with an adjustable clearance of up to 2 m. Thanks to the Ethernet interface, it is easy to integrate this portal into every network. The iDTRONIC UHF tool tags UHF have been designed especially for healthcare and tool tracking applications. In healthcare, the compliance with FDA requirements for Unique Device Identification enables the costumer to track automatically all surgical tools and reduce the risks of foreign object debris (FOD) and infection control. The tool tags can be mounted on metal or embedded in metal and will withstand repeated autoclave cycles.

The iDTRONIC UHF ISO Cards with Alien HIGGS 3 UHF Gen2 chip and can be fitted to the ISO7810 standard produces. Our cards are available through a UHF frequency band from 860-960 MHz and can be used in all over the world. We can of course personalize the cards for you, whether they offset printed cards, serial numbers, bar code or chip encoding required, please contact us for it and we find the right solution for your project. Change from NXP Mifare 4 byte UID number to 7 byte UID number

Guidance for the change from NXP Mifare
4 byte UID number to 7 byte UID number

The UID of Mifare cards is in most cased used to identify the card during the selection and anti-collision process. It also serves as a logical identifier in contactless systems. Now the NXP Unique 4 Byte IDs will be discontinued for Mifare1S50 (1K) and Mifare1S70 (4K) NXP offers two options for future Mifare card and tags orders:

1.    Mifare 7 Byte UID

2.    Mifare 4 Byte NU (Non-Unique) UID

Non-unique IDs need to be considered in the contactless systems as their 7 Byte UID numbers might cause problems in automatic fare collection, closed loop payment and access management applications!

iDTRONIC Customers will have the choice to purchase either products with unique 7 Byte ID’s or 4 Byte NU IDs, which are not globally unique any more.

New Mifare 7 Byte and 4 Byte NU cards and tags will be available from Q4 2011, until then all orders will be produced with standard Mifare 4 Byte UID.

NXP I-Code SLI-X—Now available from iDTRONIC

iDTRONIC SMART TAGS, a leading supplier for Smart Tags and Smartcards offers now all products also with the new I-Code SLI-X transponder IC from NXP.

The I-CODE SLI-X IC is a dedicated device for intelligent Labels, Tags and Smartcards used in applications such as library, access control and product authentication.

The new I-CODE SLI-X offers the possibility of operating labels simultaneously in the field of the reader antenna (anti-collision). It is specially designed for long read range applications.

The 1024 bit EEPROM memory is divided into 32 blocks. A block is the smallest access unit. Each block consists of 4 bytes (1 block = 32 bits). Bit 0 in each byte represents the least significant bit (LSB) and bit 7 the most significant bit (MSB), respectively.

The memory is divided into 2 areas

Configuration area:
Within this part of the memory all required information is stored, such as UID, write protection, access control information, passwords, AFI and EAS. This memory area cannot be directly accessed.

User memory: Within the 896 bit memory area the user data are stored. Direct read/write access to this part of the memory is possible depending on the related write protection conditions.

Of course you can use this new I-CODE SLI-X IC for all iDTRONIC tag/card formfactors like ISO CARD, RFID KEYFOBS or RFID WRISTBANDS.

The I-CODE SLI-X IC is definitely a valid choice if security and price are the driving factors.

iDTRONIC’s latest innovative product, the “UHF Long Range Gate SDK“ consists of the high-performance iDTRONIC UHF Long Range Reader/Writer, four circular polarized antennas (A1 type), two stands, full mounting equipment and cables, as well as, a full Starter Development Kit on CD-ROM.

The new UHF Reader/Writer Device is a high performance reader (R/W) based on Intel´s latest R1000 transceiver and can be configured with any frequency from 860—960 MHz. This makes it usable in Europe, US and even Japan. It also has also a software programmable RF Power supply (up to 2 W RF) and multi-colour LED indicators.

Its integrated configuration software enables it to operate with all the common UHF frequencies from 840—960 MHz (EPC Gen2), which makes it usable in Europe, US, and Asia.

IDTRONIC’s new UHF USB Read / Write Stick is an easy to handle RFID Reader to be used with USB equipped Terminals and Laptops. Its light weight and compact design, in combination with the latest technology and a robust ABS housing, make it the perfectly suited to a very wide range of identification applications.

Logistics management, track–and-trace, distribution systems, and inventory control environments all benefit from the high performance of this innovative stick reader. Able to operate at temperatures of up to 60 °C, it can even be used in very rough environments.

The linearly polarized built-in antenna allows a maximum reading distance of up to 80 cm. The USB V2.0 type A ensures reliable, high-speed data transfer. The reader supports data rates to the tag of between 40 kbps and 250 kbps, and from the tag to the reader of 40 kbps.

The UHF Read/Write USB stick includes a multi-colour LED indicator to easily monitor the reading status. The reader uses the 5 Volt USB power supply, and the power output is adjustable up to 20 dBm. Moreover, the Reader offers a reader sensitivity well over -90 dBm.

The new Compact Flash UHF Reader / Writer from iDTRONIC supports the full UHF frequency band from 860—960 MHz. It has been designed and developed to allow Pocket PCs, PDA’s, Handheld Terminals and other mobile devices to access to ISO 18000-6 Part B + C (Gen1-Gen2) UHF smart labels, tags and ISO transponders.

iDTRONIC’s new lightweight UHF CF clearly demonstrates how mobile readers are getting more and more compact. With a weight of just 30 grams, and measuring just 95 × 60 × 12 mm in combination with a robust ABS housing, the new reader fits in anywhere.

The CF Reader can work with any of the latest Pocket PCs and PDAs with an integrated CF2 Interface and supports Windows CE, Windows Pocket PC and Windows Mobile 5 & 6 operating systems. The reading distance for the CF Reader can be up to 50 cm, depending on the type and size of the used transponder.

iDTRONIC’s Bluebox industrial readers / writers are specially designed for industrial environments. They are completely sealed against dust and water. UHF Indus Tags

iDTRONIC, a leading supplier for RFID Hardware solutions, has introduced three newly enhanced RFID tags to meet the demands of a wide range of applications. The UHF Indus Tags are all EPC Class 1 Gen 2 compatible and are now equipped with ALIEN’s Higgs 3 ICs.

iDTRONIC’s new Indus tags are specially designed for Industrial Applications, since it is extremely resistant to any kind of external damage.

The new UHF tags are complete made of Nylon and Epoxy material, which allows the tags to support the physical conditions found in harsh environments, and to resist against abrasion, impact and corrosion. The Indus Tags are designed to easily resist temperatures up to 90 °C, as well as a wide range of agressive chemicals.

They also have a protective coating which is particularly resistant to humidity, and conforms to the IP67 norm as well as DIN 40050 / IEC 60529. This assures a very low level of interference from materials such as metal and liquids.

The new generation of Indus Tag are available in three different form factors, as Indus Brig tag (36 × 126 × 13 mm), designed as a high-end general purpose tag for use in supply chain management solutions including pallet and case tracking. For the same usage, but with other dimensions is the new Indus SQ tag (59 × 112 × 7 mm) designed. The smallest member of the new UHF Tags series, the Indus Tiny tag (37 × 60 × 10 mm) is dedicated for all industrial application where size and form factors are important for the daily use.

All Indus tags have been tested at a very reliable reading range of up to 5 meters in a variety of harsh industrial environment. The tags are all EPC Class 1 Gen2 conform, support UHF frequencies from 868—916 MHz and are based on ISO 18000-6 standard.

The iDTRONIC Indus tags are particularly well-suited to the identification of goods and objects in industrial, logistics and production applications.

Access Control is a system which enables an authority to control access to areas in a given physical facilities. An access control point, which can be a door, turnstile, parking gate, elevator or other physical barrier where granting access can be controlled using RFID technology.

Data security is generally very high using RFID technology. It also reduces the possibility of duplicating credentials. Secure or proprietary communication protocols can also be used to further enhance security.

A RFID based Access Control reader does not usually make an access decision but send a card number to an Access Control panel that verifies the number against an access list. Generally only entry is controlled and exit is uncontrolled. In cases where exit is also controlled a second reader is used on the opposite side of the door. The typical RFID tag is a RFID based contactless smartcard, key fob, wristband or smartphone sticker.

With costs rising in the waste management process, RFID is enabling cities and municipalities to reliably identify individual receptacles and can create incentive-based recycling programs that accurately reward customers for the amount they recycle, while minimizing the overall amount of trash.

By automating the collection of all waste, RFID can assure that individual bins have been collected, providing verification of service. In addition this information can be used to optimize truck usage and routes. Processes can be streamlined and more accurate.

RFID technology helps a lot to increase efficiency of the waste management operations. To realize this application, a properly designed rugged RFID tag is attached to the waste bins. It contains all user/owner information.

An RFID reader/antenna embedded into the truck captures the tag IDs of each waste bin. The data collected from the RFID tags can be linked with a time stamp, type of container, weight of the container, and customer information. The data can be either sent to a host computer using wireless protocols or the data can also be stored in the truck’s onboard computer and later transferred to a central waste management system for data processing.

Today, textile identification and sorting in industrial laundry processes can be greatly enhanced through RFID technology. By attaching tiny RFID tags to garments, uniforms, linens or mats the ownership of the items is well defined.

Textiles can be easily identified by the use of RFID technology,with amazing advantages for industrial laundries. The amortization factor of RFID systems in industrial laundry applications is very high.

It all begins with an RFID tag attached to a garment or linen. The industry has created a series of ISO standards-based, high-frequency 13.56 MHz tags that are encapsulated in plastic to withstand the harsh temperatures and detergents found in commercial laundries. Tags are programmed with a unique ID number that can be read and processed. RFID tagged garments can be read while stored in bags or racked on hanger bundles.
