Planning access control for your fitness studio: The most important questions before you buy
An access control system should fit your gym and its operations. It is not enough to simply choose a reader or a tripod turnstile . What matters is how members use the entrance and how the hardware interacts with your existing management software.
The following questions will help you narrow down your requirements before making a purchase.
Which areas need to be controlled?
Is it just the main entrance, or do you also need to secure separate training rooms and the wellness area? Are certain areas restricted to specific membership tiers?
An overview of your access points provides the foundation for your planning. Be sure to document who is authorized to access which area and at what times, as well as how guests or trial members should gain entry.
How should members identify themselves?
iDTRONIC offers various identification options for gyms. These include RFID cardsandwristbands, as well as QR codes, apps, or Facial recognition – depending on the chosen solution.
Software integration is equally important: gym solutions can be integrated into common management systems like Magicline. Before purchasing, you should clarify which functions the specific combination of hardware and software supports.
Which access system fits your entrance?
The available space and expected foot traffic influence your choice. Specifically, check how many members arrive during peak hours and how you want to organize entry and exit. Also, consider individuals who require a wider passage.
One possible system is the ID GATE 5600. It offers a motorized passage with sensor monitoring and can be equipped with various identification technologies. According to the product description, the wing doors open automatically in the event of a power failure. The suitability for your specific installation site must be evaluated as part of the overall concept.
Should lockers be part of the solution?
If electronic locker locks are planned, it is worth including them early on. The iDTRONIC portfolio offers both battery-powered and battery-free RFID models. Depending on the system, centralized management is also possible.
If the same medium is to be used at the entrance and the locker, the chip technology, encoding, and software must be compatible. An existing RFID wristband can therefore only be reliably planned for after its technical specifications have been verified.
What needs to be checked before installation?
For implementation, we recommend a joint review of the spatial and technical requirements. This includes the necessary connections and integration into your existing IT infrastructure.
Also, define which scenarios should be tested during commissioning. Does regular member access work? Is a lack of authorization handled correctly? How does the system react if the connection is interrupted? Such tests make the intended processes transparent before you go live.
What are the ongoing operating costs?
Compare quotes based on the entire intended operation. In addition to the purchase price, you should consider potential software costs and maintenance requirements. Also, ask about support and how the system can be expanded in the future.
Clearly defined requirements make the selection process easier. iDTRONIC provides support in selecting products and technically integrating the right solution for your studio.
